CRAFT ACTIVITIES FOR PARENTS AND KIDS

Are you looking for ideas to make the most use of the time you have got with your kids? One of the best ways to do so is to get crafty with them.

Participating in craft activities with kids will not only help you all spend some quality family time together but also help your kids immensely by developing their motor skills. And what is interesting is that these activities can be done with simple materials which are easily available either at home or in stationery shops.

So without further ado, let us look at some interesting craft activities with kids that can help you all have some creative fun.

DIY Jellyfish
Jellyfish is a beautiful marine creature that mesmerises many young kids. You can make your own jellyfish at home with a paper plate, thick threads (thin ribbons would do too) and some colors.

  • Step 01: Ask your child to paint the paper plate & threads with his/her favorite colors

  • Step 02: Once they are done painting then create a hole in the center of the plate and turn it upside down

  • Step 03: Now pass the painted threads through the hole in the plate to make them look like the arms of jellyfish

  • Step 04: Once you have passed all the threads through the hole, tie the threads together in a knot at the top.

  • Step 05: If you want to use it as a wall hanging then you can tie an additional thin rope with the knot and hang your masterpiece.

Paper Rainbow
If you have introduced scissors to your child then here is an activity that will help him/her practice their cutting skills. All you need to do is get some white paper, craft papers of different colors, glue, sketch pen and of course scissors.

Step 01: Ask the kids to cut thin stripes of the colored craft papers. If they aren’t old enough to handle scissors then you can cut the papers for them.

Step 02: Once done with the cutting, they can draw some clouds on the white paper and cut the same in the shape of the clouds.
Step 03: The last step is to follow the color arrangement of the rainbow which is VIBGYOR (Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green. Yellow, Orange and Red) and stick the colorful stripes on the cloud cut out. And voila, your rainbow is ready.

DIY Stone Art
Here is a fun activity for you and your little one; DIY Stone Art. Get some stones, acrylic colors and paint brushes. This simple activity can be done by drawing your kids’ favorite shapes and painting them with their favorite hues. You can even draw some characters with markers and then paint them to have a storytelling session at home.

DIY Greeting Cards
If you are raising a picasso at your home then let them learn from mother nature. Be it leaves, flowers, trees, butterflies or even the clouds, ask them to draw everything that they like on craft papers. These drawings can be cut out either by them (if they are old enough to do so) or you. The cut outs can then be pasted on white paper to make greeting cards for friends and family with personal messages.

Make a photo album
Children of the digital age seldom know the feeling of printing photos and documenting them. You can give them a sneak peek into your childhood days and make a family photo album with them. For this you would need:

  • A scrapbook. You can even check online for albums that come with handmade paper.

  • Sketch pens

  • Sparkles and stickers

  • Scissors and glue

  • Prints of your family photographs

Once you have everything in place, you can follow the following steps:

  • Step 01: Start by decorating the scrapbook/album with your craft supplies

  • Step 02: Paste the pictures the way you want to

  • Step 03: You and your child can add some personal messages or notes against each photos
